Avalon by Otterbein at Perrysburg was honored with the Excellence in Innovation Award from AOPHA, the advocate of not-for-profit services for older Ohioans. The award was presented recently during the AOPHA 2009 Annual Conference and Trade Show.
This award is presented to an individual or organization that has made an innovative contribution through unique technology, education or other aging services.
To ensure "elder assistants," Avalon's nurse aides, serve a meaningful role within the interdisciplinary care team, Clinical Glide Paths was implemented. This software system allows elder assistants to record systematic, targeted observations, often alerting clinicians to important resident health changes. The Clinical Glide Paths system will apply predetermined logic to decide if an alert is needed, at which point a nurse can intervene with appropriate care. Additionally, Clinical Glide Paths is providing important research regarding technology usage in senior services.
"Finding ways to provide innovative quality care is an ongoing challenge for all senior service providers," said AOPHA Professional Recognition Chair Phil Braisted. "By incorporating ways to ensure all care givers have a meaningful role within the organization through the utilization of emerging technology, Avalon by Otterbein at Perrysburg is creating new pathways for all senior service providers to better meet their missions of quality health care and housing for Ohio's older population."
