Congratulations Tom Keith: Winner of the 20 Under 40 Award!

Even though he has several years experience, at just 29 years old, Thomas Keith may still be the youngest executive director of a continuing care retirement community in Ohio. Recently, he was awarded the 20 Under 40 Award at a banquet at the Lima Courtyard Marriott event sponsored by the Business Journal of West Central Ohio.

Since 2007, Keith has been with Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Living Community in Pemberville, where he supervises a large team that manages housing and care for about 200 members who are 55 and better in 74 independent villas, 32 independent apartments, 32 assisted living suites and 50 skilled nursing beds including rehabilitation services.

Keith manages a multi-million dollar operation, 125 employees, a large board of directors and several resident committees. He has completed a $2 million dollar campus renovation and is now looking to the future facilitating the design and construction of a much-needed life enrichment center for the current members, as well as Baby Boomers who are coming soon.

While he is younger, he already has a proven record and a heart for seniors. He started where every executive should: as a certified nurse's assistant. Residents and staff alike feel his compassion, understanding and willingness to go outside the expectations of an executive to ensure things run smoothly.

At just 21, Keith received his degree in gerontology/long-term care administration from Bowling Green State University. He finished his study and internship at Mount Washington Care Center in Cincinnati, and before long returned to northwest Ohio. Keith began serving northwest Ohio seniors at Lutheran Home Society for more than four years as assistant administrator and then executive director. He has demonstrated initiative and competence in working with seniors as an executive and every stage before.
