(Columbus, Ohio) – Donald L. Gilmore, immediate past president and CEO of Otterbein Homes, based in Lebanon with communities throughout the state, was honored with the Leadership of Honor Award from AOPHA, the advocate of not-for-profit services for older Ohioans. The award was recently presented during the awards celebration held in conjunction with the AOPHA 2009 Annual Conference and Trade Show.
This award, considered AOPHA’s highest honor, is presented to an individual or organization providing vision and active participation within the senior services field, along with mentoring of other professionals.
A third generation long-term care administrator, Gilmore is a past chair of AAHSA, the national affiliate of AOPHA, just one of numerous leadership positions he held throughout a storied career that concluded with his retirement earlier this year. During his tenure at Otterbein, Gilmore led transformative change, culminating in the pioneering development of Avalon by Otterbein, implementing the small house concept in providing housing and health care services.
“While leadership comes in many forms, a common trait often cited is leadership by example,” said AOPHA Professional Recognition Committee Chair Phil Braisted. “Don has blazed an innovative and positive pathway in not-for-profit services with his successes at Otterbein and throughout his illustrious career. It is our honor to recognize Don Gilmore for his leadership within his organization, community and the field of not-for-profit services.”
