Get Fit! Eat Right! Have Fun!

GET FIT!
One of our newest members has inspired many of us to get fit in 2010! Eleanor Nehring earned her Chinese Kempo Karate black belt at age 70 and, until recently, maintained a cardio regimen plus pushups, bicep curls, military presses and squats with a 20-pound weight jacket. What is even more impressive is that, now 92, Eleanor is still active and inspires optimism every day.

Recently, we discovered some unfamiliar tracks in one of our courts. After a moment, it dawned on me that they were made by cross-country skis! Our very active Sandy Bauer (pictured below) was out enjoying the walking trail through the woods on her skis. A different perspective to be sure!

EAT RIGHT!
Tasty and nutritious! That’s how our members describe Chef Reggie’s menus. From Chef’s creamy chicken mushroom brie soup to his delicious baked manicotti to last Friday’s Breakfast for Lunch, it’s easy to get your fill of world-class cuisine at Otterbein Portage Valley.

Emily Paul chose the exact ingredients she wanted in her lunchtime omelet last week. She also could have chosen a fantastic homemade waffle drizzled in melted butter, syrup, strawberries, blueberries, pecans and whipped cream as well as scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and hash browns. We’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal, but Chef Reggie makes sure that every meal is delicious and packed with essential vitamins and minerals.

Emily Paul prepares to dig into her made-to-order lunchtime omelet.

HAVE FUN!
Sample a selection of Chef Reggie’s Famous Soups at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23. We’re thrilled, too, to be hosting a free March Movie Matinee at the Maumee Indoor Theater on Wednesday, March 3. Come learn about our healthy living sponsors, and stay for free munchies, popcorn, soda and a screening of Julie & Julia. And be sure to keep an eye out for our Music in the Air series, beginning in May. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for a lunchtime romp through several musical genres. Suggested donation of $3 per lunch. RSVPs are most appreciated for any of these events. Call 419-833-8917.
