Residents reach milestone - 100 years or more

With more than 600 years among them, Otterbein St. Marys has six residents who are considered centenarians. A centenarian is a person who has achieved the age of 100 years or more. With life expectancies at less than 100, the term is largely associated with longevity.

Swan apartment resident Forrest Nedderman has lived at Otterbein St. Marys for 10 years. He says it has helped him to be able to exercise indoors and out. Another thing he contributes to his longevity is that he says he doesn’t worry about anything. As a lesson to all of us, Forrest says if he worries about something, you either have to fix it or forget about it.

Nursing resident Alice Preston has been at Otterbein St. Marys for 19 years. She started out in a patio home and  has gone through the full continuum of care. She moved at the right time and that has helped her. She also contributes her longevity to the treatment she has received as a resident. Talking with Alice and her family, they said - and she agreed - that one of her qualities that brought her to the age of 100 is her "orneriness."

The quality of life experienced at Otterbein St. Marys truly contributes to the longevity these residents have been blessed with.
