Willard Scott to announce Ethel Couch's birthday on air Wednesday

Avalon by Otterbein at Atrium resident Ethel Couch (pictured above) is excited! Her birthday wish was that Willard Scott would wish her a happy birthday on air and that is just what he is going to do! Listen for her name on the Willard Scott announcements at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday on NBC's Today show.

Born May 2, 1907, Ethel is 103. The following information about Ethel was submitted to Willard Scott as to why he should highlight her birthday.

She is a fun lady who crochets daily, and gives most of what she makes away to others. Ethel is a very faith-based woman, who has a lovely laugh and a huge smile. She loves breakfast and homegrown vegetables. She has three living children and tons of extended family who ALL visit her regularly. She wants to be the longest living member of her family and beat her great-grandfather, who lived to be 104.

A picture from Ethel's birthday celebration Sunday also is in Monday's Middletown Journal. Ethel's son, Earl Couch, and her granddaughter, Candy Mobeley, both worked to make the recognition possible.

Ethel lives at Avalon by Otterbein at Atrium, a small house neighborhood on the campus of the Atrium Medical Center in Middletown. The small house neighborhood is a concept that is changing the face of skilled nursing and rehabilitation care in Ohio.
