When you retire, is your pet in for the easy life, too? You bet! Whether you choose a villa, a apartment or assisted living, your four-legged, beaked and finned friends are welcome to enjoy the sweet life with you at Otterbein Portage Valley. With 165 acres of wide-open country space, you and your pal can walk the grounds, enjoy the community garden and fish in the pond together.
According to a report released last month, the keys to enjoying retirement lie not in resting but continuing to stay busy and enjoy what you do. People who continue to work after retirement have fewer diseases and functional limitations than people who quit completely, reports WebMD contributor Bill Hendrick.
Even though he has several years experience, at just 29 years old, Thomas Keith may still be the youngest executive director of a continuing care retirement community in Ohio. Recently, he was awarded the 20 Under 40 Award at a banquet at the Lima Courtyard Marriott event sponsored by the Business Journal of West Central Ohio.
Wednesday’s blustery rain was perfect soup weather. Residents enjoyed Chef Reggie’s homemade rye, white and wheat rolls and, while the rich chicken mushroom brie soup seemed to receive the highest praise for comfort food, Chef enjoyed rave reviews on the tangy tomato carbonara, flavorful seafood chowder and spicy chili.
Just the day before, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, residents enjoyed breakfast with Fox 36 Weather Forecaster Larry Whatley and his take on northwest Ohio’s climate and what the news guys are really saying.
Recently, several villa and apartment residents decided to take in a matinee show of “Amelia,” the new Amelia Earhart movie, and dinner in Levis Commons.
Dean Ruemmele said that “Amelia” was very good despite what he thought were some unnecessary racy bits.
“They should’ve just stuck with the history,” he noted, “but it was still a fun day out.”
