Jane Baker House
At the Jane Baker House, residents still benefit from the outstanding nursing care that has distinguished Otterbein for years, but the focus is on enjoying life in a home where nurturing personal care is provided to each individual.
The Ohio Department of Aging’s 2009 Long-term Care Resident Satisfaction Survey listed the Jane Baker House in the top 25 of Ohio nursing homes. Out of a possible 100, the Jane Baker House rated 95. One hundred percent of those asked said they would recommend it to others. Full survey results are available on the Ohio Long-term Care Consumer Guide Web site.
The Jane Baker House at Otterbein North Shore also achieved an overall rating of five stars in the Medicare 5-Star Rating System for the first quarter of 2010. The present rating also makes the Jane Baker House the second long-term care facility in Ottawa County to achieve this top honor.
Located on the Otterbein North Shore campus, the Jane Baker House is home to 10 people. The people living in the small house make their own decisions about daily living and schedules. Residents in the one-story house enjoy a spacious great room with a hearth area, beautiful patio, residential kitchen for cooking favorite recipes, family dining area, a spa/physical therapy room, a den and private suites for each resident.
With a focus on rehabilitation therapies, temporary stays after a hospitalization or an acute illness are common. The specialized, trained staff understands that no person wants to live in an environment that focuses solely on their frailty, and so quality of life becomes the small house focus. Elder assistants, licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, physical therapists, social workers, nutritionists and a medical director make up the healthcare team.
