Otterbein Retains EAGLE Accreditation

On March 28th, at the annual United Methodist Association’s National Convention, Otterbein will be one of 16 organizations recognized for successfully achieving The Educational Assessment Guidelines Leading toward Excellence (EAGLE). Otterbein has been accredited since 1998.

EAGLE accreditation is a professional credentialing process for faith-based organizations providing care to older adults, children, youth and families, community services ministries and hospitals and health systems.

The Commission challenges organizations to meet or exceed the highest standards for governance, management and operations in Christian ministry. The intensive self-assessment and peer review process encourages and recognizes excellence in Christian mission and ministry.

Jane Baker Small House...

OTTERBEIN SMALL HOUSE AT NORTH
SHORE READY FOR SERVICE

Otterbein North Shore is on the verge of a new adventure with the completion of the first Otterbein Small House in Ohio. "Our journey has just begun," said Jill Hreben, Senior Vice President of Strategic Management and Change.

The journey to which Hreben refers is Otterbein Retirement Living Communities' mission to liberate elders and those who serve them from the mindsets of institutional care. The Otterbein Small House is a cornerstone effort in this journey. Each home is carefully designed to balance a sense of community, and warmth of family with a respect for each individual's privacy.

"Privacy is always within reach for residents," Hreben stated. "There are ten private rooms and private baths within the home and all are situated around an inviting great room and large eat-in kitchen. Meals are celebrated with family style dining, and family and friends encouraged to join in. In other words, an Otterbein Small House is about being home."

There are essentially four items that will separate an Otterbein Small House from a traditional nursing care mindset: choice, human relationships, privacy and a comfortable physical environment in which to pursue these. " We are excited about what this model means for our elders," Hreben expressed. "The heart of an Otterbein Small House is the wants and need of its residents."
