MEET A RESIDENT

“This is home – that’s all!”

When asked to describe life at Otterbein St. Marys, Don Rowe says it is like being in a small town. “You can leave you house open if you want,” he insists.

Don and his wife Louise were familiar with Otterbein St. Marys before they moved here. Don’s parents lived at OSM for nine years and moved from a patio home through assisted living and nursing care. “My parents used every facility. We knew what great care they received and knew we could be at home here,” Don said.

And have they ever made it their home! Louise enjoys the activities and social calendar, while Don is busy volunteering with everything from being Chairman of the woodshop and Partners Appreciation Committee to organizing the newspapers and helping with transportation.

Don is proud of Otterbein St. Marys spirit of volunteerism. In 2005, the community logged 19,000 hours in volunteer involvement. “This is not a nursing home,” Don says enthusiastically. “It’s far from it!”

“We cannot say enough about the partners,” states Don. “They are gems. And so are our neighbors. We have help on all sides of us! The best thing about living at Otterbein St. Marys, you don’t have to worry about the future.”
